The wicker weaving products of Shangqiu are also called Songzhou wicker weaving products since they originated in the Song Dynasty. Slim rod-like wickers in Shangqiu are ideal materials for household containers for their toughness, flexibility, color of pure white once peeled and characteristics of being odorless and innocuous. They were usually used for grain containers, dustpans, hats, steamed bread baskets and sold in domestic market before 1971.
